Reduced joint or muscle flexibility may lead to biomechanical strain patterns and injury. Osteopaths aim to identify areas of dysfunction, restore movement and incorporate rehabilitation as required.

Over 60s

As we age, mobility is key to independence and well-being. But the ageing process results in physiological changes in body tissue; we lose elasticity and our ability to recover. This can adversely impact agility and movement.

Osteopathy may reverse typical ageing patterns by reducing soft tissue tensions, improving fluid movement and drainage and increasing joint freedom. Many people report that after osteopathic treatment, they feel supple and can carry out daily routines more easily.

Osteopaths are general health care practitioners and are recognised providers by Veterans Affairs and Medicare funded Chronic Disease Management Scheme. You may like to discuss your eligibility with your general practitioner as a medical referral is required in these cases.

Postural Issues

Poor posture may lead to repeated strain on areas of the body which can then present as pain such as tight, weak muscles and poor efficacy of movement. Everyday tasks such as sitting for long periods at an office desk or looking down at a phone or tablet are leading causes of poor posture. Inversely, repetitive tasks can also result in poor posture.

Our osteopaths pay close attention to the region of the body that is under strain and combine treatment with exercise to restore comfort and mobility. In some circumstances, activities such as yoga, clinical pilates or exercise physiology may be recommended; all of which are available in-house at the Shepparton Osteopathic Clinic.

Pregnancy & Postnatal Care

During pregnancy your body undergoes tremendous change. In some cases, this change increases mechanical stress on the body especially to the ribcage, lower back and pelvis.

Many pregnant women find osteopathic treatment helpful throughout their pregnancy to manage musculoskeletal complaints and discomforts. Treatment may also assist in preparation for birth.

  • Low back pain
  • Referred buttock or leg pain
  • Pelvic pain and instability
  • Tightness in the ribcage and breathing difficulties
  • Symptoms of reflux
  • Swelling and fluid retention
  • Neck pain and headaches

Children & Babies

Trauma during pregnancy or birth, childhood accidents and falls, sickness, sporting injuries or rapid growth may place strains on young bodies.

Osteopathic treatment may assist children to adapt to growth related changes by gently addressing musculoskeletal strains.

Restoring optimal biomechanics and physiological function may help with:

  • growing pains in muscles, bones and joints
  • sporting injuries
  • headaches and back pain
  • digestive problems and complaints
  • breathing difficulties
